And here is a taste of the sorts of bush delights we see on a daily basis.  The Nikau tree has a peculiar habit of shedding the pod that has encased the developing flower.  In full sunlight this morning, 2 trees shed the pod, revealing pink very squashed flowers.  Over the day, they will open fully and spread into a fan shape.

Also, while on our bush walk down to our stream last night, we (or a friend did) spotted a baby shag.  This is a sea bird and we have never ever seen one by our stream, which is about 5 km inland from the sea.  You never know what you will see down our track!
